Well, they're a lease, which we knew, but I'm pretty irritated that the disclosure letter said the monthly payment was a certain amount and how much was left on the lease, but failed to mention that the payment increases every July 1 2.9%. And the warranty from the company against roof damage is only 10 years, which has just passed. We're trying to figure out a solution now (I was also annoyed that there's a $150 transfer fee for the lease but the seller wanted the buyer to pay it. We're getting you out of a lease and you want us to pay that? Please.).
And on top of that, I share the listing with my mom and after she looks at it and asks different questions, etc. she pops up with "I thought you were trying to buy a home that I could come live with you, but this has stairs and you'd need two chair lifts and you wouldn't want to open the front door and there be two chair lifts." Which, one, why would I care if there's a chair lift when I open my front door? What? Plus they make chair lifts that go around corners (this house is a split level, which every damned house I can afford built in this county seems to be). There's a fairly large basement bedroom that would be hers if she wants it, along with an attached bathroom (so Mr. Kris, Jack, and I would be sharing the other one and maybe eventually would be able to add another). I guess I'm irritated because earlier this month we had a conversation, pretty sure it was just over the phone, not text or anything, that I just can't only look at houses based on whether she will move in, since she hasn't even fully committed to moving here. She just hates where she's living now. We had put in an offer on a house that would have had more space and a definite space for her with no stair lift issues but were beaten out, and as much as I liked the house part of me was happy we lost it since it would have been at the very tippy top of our budget and if we'd won it there was no guarantee my mom would actually move and give the $ she promised. It reminds me of my older brother, he was looking to add an addition onto his last house, for my mom and my SIL's sister (she is disabled and lives with them). The whole time he's sending her plans on where the addition would go, what it would include, etc. and every time she kept saying oh she needed a sewing room and a kitchen that was this size and basically a 1000sq ft house like what she was living in at the time. It pissed my brother off so much he ended up just not even doing the addition, they ended up buying a large piece of land east of Raleigh and rebuilt the small house there and are in the middle of building a house on the land. That house would have plenty of space for my mom but probably won't be done for at least another year.
And all of that on top of I'm not even sure I *want* my mother to live with us. I love her dearly but she is a very negative person and I don't know if I can deal with that every day and every night.
Oy. This is just a lot going on right now!
