I’m watching the live feed of George Clooney’s Good Night and Good Luck on CNN. This is so unusual to broadcast a live (not recorded) Broadway play. I wasn’t able to get to this show in person. It would have taken a lottery win because tix were very expensive.
Tomorrow I have free tix to see August Strindberg’s The Creditors at the Minetta Lane Theater in the Village. It stars Liev Schreiber, Maggie Siff and Justice Smith and has gotten very good reviews. It’s a hot ticket because it’s a limited production. The free tix come via a Hugh Jackman-led initiative to make theatre tix more affordable to a wider audience. Half the tix are free or cheap and distributed via various community groups. The other half are more expensive than the average Off-Broadway theater ticket for those who can afford them. I was first offered free tickets for June 3, the day I was flying back from Mexico. First world problem, for sure. When I expressed my disappointment in not being available on June 3, they offered me two free tix for the 3pm show on Sunday, June 8 — which happens to be my birthday.
When we get home from that play, we will be watching the Tony Awards. What a fun birthday weekend! I was already taken to see Sunset Boulevard on Broadway as an early birthday gift.
