because it is illegal to leave the scene of an accident. They don't know what the other driver saw/heard/knew so that's why they need to find them. I Googled and this is what I found.
Property damage or injury means you stop and report it. In this case, Jordan was injured. I don't think you have to render age, but calling for help can save a life. Let's say that Valentin and Carly don't come along--Curtis' phone was smashed and w/o the other driver calling for help--Jordan dies in the explosion.

Is it a crime to leave the scene of an accident if I'm not at fault in new york?

Yes, leaving the scene of an accident is a crime in New York under Vehicle and Traffic Law (VTL) 600, regardless of fault. You must stop, exchange information, and report any accident involving damage to property or injury, even if you are not at fault.

Key Consequences for Leaving the Scene (Hit & Run):

Property Damage Only: Violating VTL 600(1)(a) is a violation (not a misdemeanor) punishable by up to 15 days in jail, a $250 fine, and points on your license.

Personal Injury: Leaving the scene where someone is injured is a Class A or B misdemeanor (or higher depending on severity), leading to a criminal record, fines, and potential jail time.

Mandatory Actions: You must share your name, address, insurance details, and license number with the other driver and police
