I've been considering getting a freezer for years. Yesterday, I saw a listing for a fairly large chest freezer on Facebook Marketplace. Only $200. A bit scruffy/beat up, but it worked. New ones about that size were easily twice the price.
I contacted the person who offered to deliver it today. They wanted it gone. (Turned out, it was a residential chest freezer that they'd been using in their business. They got new commercial ones and offered this old, still working one at a bargain price.) I withdrew the cash and the seller and I kept messaging back and forth until her husband and son were in front of my house (while I was in the backyard). The dad drove the truck into the backyard, then he and the son offloaded it from the back of their pickup and placed it on my new patio. The dad plugged it into an outlet on the patio and we were in business.
We talked about this and that (how I learned about the new freezer), whether or not he thought a quarter cow could fit in the freezer (he said most definitely...he usually butchers a cow every year and brings about half of it home for the family, leaving the rest for relatives where he butchered the cow.), and he repeated that the only thing that freezer had had in it was ice cream. That had been listed on the announcement.
I turned the freezer off, boiled some water that I poured into a large silicone cup, set the cup inside the freezer, and closed the lid. I waited about ten minutes then took a stiff spatula and started scraping all the frost off of the inside of the freezer followed by scooping up the pieces of frost with a turner. I tossed all the ice and frost into the yard. It probably didn't last long.
The freezer is running on the patio with nothing in it. I'm about to place my order for a quarter cow, probably tomorrow. I want to find out if one of the people I know gets a referral discount for my first order. Why not let them get something free if all it takes is mentioning their name? If there isn't such a program, I'll just be ordering a day late. The pick up isn't until August. I'm hoping they don't sell out before their closing date.
I have to options for the placement of the freezer, and the patio is NOT on my list, although the father said that it should work fine on the patio. I want to put it in the second bedroom which still needs to be cleared out to make room for it (Did I mention that the freezer has wheels?) or in the garage where I had an outlet added. There are currently some containers with other stuff where I'd like to put the freezer in the garage; but they could go into the second bedroom instead. Decisions, decisions.
This evening, the assembly guy came to put together the sofa I'd ordered from Wayfair. He got it done in about twenty minutes. Fast, neat, efficient. He basically gets paid to go to people's houses and follow the instructions. He put it together faster than we would have...when we got around to trying to assemble it. We figure we would have let it sit in the box, unopened, for a few months or until we'd gotten tired of using it as a side table. That could take a while. Fabulous job. I gave him an EXCELLENT review.
Things are coming together!
