There’s a theme, so for me, the “best dressed” are those who understand the assignment and nail it. I loved Gigi Hadid’s dress, but nothing about it said Black dandy aesthetic, so stunning as that dress is, it was a fail for me in this context. On the other hand, I was surprised by Whoopi Goldberg’s ensemble. I think she generally looks like a mess, even on the rare occasions when she actually tries to dress well, and I don’t particularly care for what she wore. But in the context of the theme, she nailed it.
The true best for me are those who stick to the theme while remaining fashion gods. This year, it was Mindy Kaling and Coleman Domingo for me.
