The mother vows to keep him away. But nobody ever distances themselves from Sonny. Even the mayor and the PC are in his pocket.
When he is written to be the savior instead of a criminal, this is not interesting. The fact that he is so cavalier about killing Marco blows the 'good' mobster theory out of the water.
