Because who here voted for him?

But I've also noticed Americans say this a lot -- generally, on other sites and platforms -- when Canadians say they can't trust Americans. And I get it to some degree, but it's also a bit moot in conversations about international cooperation. The governor of Michigan LIKES this deal. He understands that it is a very good deal for Detroit and the state. But his opinion isn't going to carry the day (I think this will probably be just fine) because the problem is that the US as a nation no longer keeps its promises. The people you might be dealing with can't do much about that. They may not voted for this with gusto. It's still the reality. And, depressingly, it's very hard to trust that even if the next President is a complete and total change, we have been here before. Obama had to clean up a lot after Bush. Biden after Trump. How many times do we do this before everyone just decides they have to work with other people?
