If we are judging the soap based on what should happen to people in real life, nothing would make sense.

There would be no drama with Nicholas' (or any other character's death, since a large percentage of Port Charles characters have returned from the dead.

Paralysis is always temporary on soaps as are most life-threatening diseases (unless the character wants to leave, the show sees no future for the character, the writers don't know what to do with a character and write dramaless crisis (Willow's leukemia). Then there are the stories, like's Mike dementia and I suspect Gregory's ALS that will showcase the human toll of the condition and the experience of the character suffering and the effect on those they love.

Characters do horrible things, often illegal things, and the consequences last as long as the storyline. That is the nature of the medium.

I can be a good sport if 1) it is executed well 2) the show will be more interesting and many characters will be affected if the character sticks around, 3) the writers make a concerted effort to justify why/how the character changed or escaped their fate. And then there are staple characters like Sonny, Ava, Valentin, etc. who have storylines where they are the hero or sympathetic and storylines where they are the villain.

So far I am happy with the direction many characters and storylines are going. Sonny unknowingly be off his meds is interesting. I'm interested to know why Valentin wants Sonny dead enough to order his death.

Execution is everything.
